He was born in the year 1968 in the city of Kolkata. His parents name are Deepak Roy and Indira Roy. He was educated at the Lawrence school, Sanwawar. His maternal uncle, Cory Walia is a famous man in tinsel town and the fashion industry in India. Rahul Roy married Rajalakshmi Khanvilkar, who is a famous model in Bollywood.

Rahul Roy is most noted for his excellent performance in Junoon. He played the role of half man and half tiger in this movie. He won a Filmfare for an outstanding performance in this movie. This award in 1992 gave him a mass popularity that produced mass hysteria in certain territories like Rajasthan where the movie broke many records.

He appeared in multiple supporting roles in many movies and lead roles in many movies. He was offered the lead role in Gumrah, which later turned into a cameo role because Sanjay Dutt took his place.

After his acting career had diminished, he did not act in films for many years. After four years he made his comeback with the hit film, Meri Aashiqui in 2005.
